First the Pros:

A first look is something that's highly debatable in the wedding community. Here is why you might want to have a first look.

• You have more time in the day to see each other

Starting off your wedding day with a private first look opens up the rest of the day to take photos together, hold each other’s hands before the ceremony starts and enjoy a little extra time between the two of you.

• You have more time to take the photos that matter most

Your photographer would be able to tell you, it streamlines your whole wedding when you have a first look. You have extra time before your ceremony to take your couple photos, formal portraits with your bridal party, and all of those family photos you may want to capture before your uncle hits Cocktail Hour. After the wedding day, many brides have said how their best decision was to have a first look for the very reason of having more photo memories to look back on.

•Your walk down the aisle is still special

Whether you do a first look or not does not change the fact that when you walk down the aisle, it will still be the groom’s first time seeing you walk down that aisle on your wedding day. (He will probably still tear up ;) )

Now the Cons:

•A first look breaks tradition

If you’re a fan of doing things by the book, a first look might not be for you. It breaks the years old tradition of m

not seeing each other until you’re at the aisle on your wedding day. If this is important to you, you may be best opting out of a first look

•You may have to start your wedding day earlier than you thought

If you plan on doing a first look, it’s very possible that you might have to allot an extra hour into your schedule for the first look itself as well as any pre-ceremony pictures that are to be taken. If your venue doesn’t allow for this, a first look may be the wrong choice for you

Whether you decide to have a first look on your big day, or opt for the traditional route, your wedding day is about you! Don’t let the opinions of others make you feel bad for your decision. At the end of the day, these are your memories that you’re making and either choice will make for a beautiful wedding day.
